RGS 24' Box Car

These 10-ton 24' box cars were built by the D&RG in 1881. The original series numbers were 3167 to 3279 on the D&RG. They were sold to the RGS in 1891. Several variations existed among exact hardware placement. These are shown in the drawings in this kit. Since these variations exist you should obtain photos of the car you wish to model. These variations are covered with extra parts in this kit.

The hardware on the cars was supplied by Billmeyer & Smalls of York, Pennsylvania. The exterior of the cars was finished in 6" T&G, while the roof was finished in a special double course of beaded 1" X 6". However, to provide a more scale appearance the model uses a single thickness of wood laser-scored to resemble the roof of the prototype.

The cars used link and pin couplers until their scrapping in 1903-1904. If you are using Kadee couplers they should be mounted below the end sills to match your equipment.
