A Part of B.T.S. |
The D&RG owned more of this 10 ton 24'
box car than any other box car in its history. There were 2,505
cars of this type on the railroad. The popular modern 3000 series
of 30' cars from 1903-1904 only numbered 750 units! The cars
were built from 1878-1883. The cars built in 1878 were numbered 2167-2296.
During 1880, the D&RG built 710 additional cars which were numbered
2351 to 3060. During 1881 1066 more cars numbered 3100-3765 and 4500-4999
were constructed. Another 500 cars were fabricated in 1882 and numbered
3766-4265. The last 101 cars were constructed in 1883 and numbered
4266 to 4366.
The D&RG used at least 5 different styles
of lettering on these cars, which allows you great latitude in your
modeling.
The hardware on the cars was supplied
by Billmeyer & Small of York, Pennsylvania. The exterior of the cars
was finished in 6" T&G, while the roof was finished in a special
double course of beaded 1" stock. However, to provide a more scale
appearance, the model uses a single thickness of wood laser-scored
to resemble the roof of the prototype.
The model includes laser-cut parts for
all the wood portions of the car, fully illustrated instructions,
brass and plastic hardware parts and other details to make a contest
quality model. Decals, trucks and couplers are not included. We suggest the
use of HOn3 couplers on your model. When the
cars were manufactured, link and pin couplers were installed on them.
